Nchila Wildlife Reserve is privately owned and is part of Hillwood Farm situated in the remote North West Province of Zambia near the borders with Angola and D.R. Congo. With over 40 square kilometres of virgin African bush, fenced with local materials, Nchila is a reserve of stunning natural beauty. Antelope and game, originally indigenous to the area, have been carefully reintroduced, and are managed with conservation foremost in mind.

Over 400 species of bird have been recorded in the area, many of which are found in the reserve. Because of Nchila's unique selection of bird species, it has been declared an IBA (Important Bird Area) by Birdlife International. Specials include the black saw-wing, plain-backed and buffy pipit, Füllborns, rosy-breasted and pink-throated longclaw, blue-spotted wood dove, Diederiks cuckoo, white-cheeked bee-eater, black-collared bulbul, little greenbul and Denhams bustard. Also sooty chat, Temmicks courser, longcrested and Wahlbergs eagle, crested guineafowl, African marsh harrier, crowned hornbill, fiery necked and pennant winged nightjar, Afep pigeon, rufous ant thrush, Narina trogan, Lady Rosss turaco, palmnut vulture and marsh whydah.
Nchila has also gained a reputation for antelope, which include bushbuck, common duiker, eland, Lichtensteins hartebeest, impala, lechwe, oribi, puku, reedbuck, roan, sable, sitatunga and Defassa waterbuck. |
