Trip Summary | Lufupa Tented Camp | Busanga Bush Camp | Toka Leya Camp | Locations

Trip Summary

This fabulous safari explores the remote northern region of Kafue National Park, Zambia’s oldest and largest Park. You begin your adventure at Lufupa Tented Camp in the northern sector of the Park before moving on to the intimate Busanga Bush Camp, located in the outstanding Busanga floodplains, home of the famous tree-climbing Busanga Plains lions. Your adventure ends at the World Heritage site of Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Days 1-3: You will be met at Lusaka Airport for a flight to Busanga airstrip in Kafue National Park. From here you have a short flight by plane or helicopter to Lufupa Tented Camp. The lodge is situated in the northern sector of the acclaimed Kafue National Park, near the confluence of the Kafue and Lufupa Rivers, an area filled with floodplains, broad-leaved woodland, lush riverine vegetation and dambos (open grassy clearings).

Activities include day and night nature drives exploring prime game viewing areas adjoining the Lufupa Channel. Boat trips also reveal the incredible hippo population of the area complemented by a constant array of colourful waterbirds, reptiles and lush riverine vegetation. Guided nature walks are also on offer.

Wildlife is prolific with lion and a wide variety of plains game such as zebra, buffalo, greater kudu and impala, as well as the less-seen species of roan, sable antelope and Lichtenstein's hartebeest. Lufupa is renowned for good leopard sightings and elephant are often seen moving through the area. Kafue's birdlife is world-acclaimed, with the Lufupa area sporting well over 400 species.

Days 4-7: This morning you fly back to Busanga airstrip and connect with a short helicopter flight to Busanga Bush Camp in the heart of the Busanga Plains, one of Zambia’s most significant wetland resources. You spend four nights at this intimate camp, accommodating a maximum of only eight guests.

Activities include game drives, walking safaris and night drives, led by qualified guides who are extremely knowledgeable about the area and its wildlife. As the plains dry out, this camp is perfectly situated to see large numbers of plains game such as puku, red lechwe, buffalo and wildebeest, followed by their predators, most notably lion. Cheetah and wild dog are also to be seen, while a special treat is the resident herd of roan antelope. For those interested in birding, the park boasts 491 species, including endemics such as Chaplin's Barbet.

Days 8-9: This morning you return by helicopter to Busanga airstrip for your departure in a light aircraft to Livingstone, followed by a short road transfer to Toka Leya Camp. Toka Leya is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River in the western sector of the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, some 12km up from the Victoria Falls and will be your home for the next two nights.

Tours of Livingstone town and museum and visits to Mkuni Market and Simonga Village are all outstanding ways of learning about the people and culture of this part of Zambia. Other activities on offer in the area at an additional charge include sunset cruises, helicopter flights, micro-lighting, canoeing, jet boating, and white water rafting.

Game drives into the Mosi-Oa-Tunya Park offer sightings of general game species such as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and impala. Good birding can be enjoyed within the confines of the camp, on boat cruises and out on game drives.

Day 10: A road transfer returns you to Livingstone International Airport to connect with your onward travel arrangements.
