Trip Summary | Kaingo Safari Lodge | Mwamba Bush Camp | Chongwe River Camp | Islands of Siankaba Lodge | Locations

A fabulous introduction to Zambia, combining South Luangwa National Park, Lower Zambezi National Park and the Victoria Falls. If you haven’t already experienced the lure of Africa and Zambia before, this trip will undoubtedly make you want to return for more.

Days 1-3: You will be met at Lusaka International Airport for a flight to South Luangwa National Park, where you will spend three nights at Kaingo Safari Lodge. Kaingo is a family owned and run camp with a personal and friendly atmosphere. Overlooking the Luangwa River in a prime area of the Park, fantastic game-viewing opportunities can be enjoyed within an area of stark beauty and varied terrain.

Activities include walking (under the escort of an armed scout and guide) and day and night game drives. Particularly special features of this camp are the nearby elephant and hippo hides, where you can enjoy tremendous up-close views of these great mammals.

Days 4-6: A relaxing 3-hour bush walk takes you from Kaingo to its satellite camp, Mwamba Bush Camp, for three nights. Mwamba is set deep in the bush and provides an opportunity for those of a more adventurous spirit to explore the Park’s heartland. Wonderfully remote and peaceful, the site is set on the banks of the Mwamba River, a tributary of the Luangwa, enjoying shady views of perennial waterholes.

The area is rich in game, with large herds of buffalo, leopard, kudu, lion, eland and Cookson’s wildebeest. Activities include both walking safaris and game drives. It is also possible to arrange an overnight at the elephant hide or a "camp out" at additional cost. Mwamba allows guests to get a sense of the absolute wilderness of the National Park as there are no other camps or trails for miles around.

Days 7-9: A flight by light aircraft takes you to the picturesque Lower Zambezi National Park. Your accommodation is Chongwe River Camp, beautifully positioned under a canopy of huge winterthorn acacia trees at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chongwe Rivers on the border of the Park. Chongwe River Camp is family owned and run, with an informal and friendly atmosphere. The camp feels very much part of the bush and elephant are often seen crossing the river in front of it. Chongwe specialises in walking and canoeing safaris, although day and night game drives, boating and fishing are also available. Activities are personalised and flexible and guiding standards high.

Lion, buffalo, leopard and hyena are frequently seen in the area, with occasional sightings of wild dogs. A walk to the Chongwe Falls for a refreshing dip is highly recommended.

Days 10-11: Today you transfer by air to the magnificent Victoria Falls. Described by the Kololo tribe living in the area in the 1800’s as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ or ‘the Smoke that Thunders’, Victoria Falls - one of the seven natural wonders of the world - are a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur on the Zambezi River, bordering Zambia and Zimbabwe. Two nights are spent at the relaxing Islands of Siankaba Lodge, located 30 minutes upstream from Victoria Falls. Spend your days enjoying the Victoria Falls area, taking nature walks on the islands, birding, fishing or canoeing. A guided walk to a local and authentic African village is highly recommended, where you can get involved with families carrying out their daily chores or visit the village school to join the kids at work in classes.
