Sam Mushandu was born in South-East Zimbabwe. Growing up in rural Zimbabwe gave him an opportunity to appreciate nature. School holidays were particularly fun as he would spend them in the woods herding cattle. Sam’s uncle worked for the National Parks Department and would invite him to the Zambezi National Park. This ignited Sam’s passion for wildlife.
After completing High School Sam moved to Bulawayo and enrolled at Bulawayo Commercial College, graduating with a diploma in Tourism. He worked for a Victoria Falls based safari company from 1999 to 2003, gaining practical experience of the bush through game drives and camp-outs in Hwange and Zambezi National Parks.
In 2003, Sam joined Wilderness Safaris Zimbabwe and acquired a lot of valuable guiding experience. The years that followed were particularly rewarding as he got a chance to work in the Wilderness Camps in Hwange National Park. He rubbed shoulders with some of the top guides in Zimbabwe who helped shape his career.
In 2005 Sam moved to Overseas Adventure Travel, providing more opportunities for learning. Many safaris around Southern Africa were conducted in the following years, including Chobe, Moremi, Mudumu, Kafue and the Greater Okavango Delta. After all the years of work experience Sam qualified as a Professional Guide in 2013 . This is the top qualification for a Guide in Zimbabwe. Sam was awarded Best Guide out of the Practical Guide Proficiency exam class 2013.
Sam enjoys fishing, so be prepared to hear a lot of fishing stories.
