Vamizi Island
Vamizi Island lies off the coast of northern Mozambique in the Quirimbas Archipelago. Vamizi Island Lodge is an exquisite 5 star destination, where a small handful of guests can step out of beautifully appointed beach villas into a world of powder sands, virginal reefs and secret coves. It remains one of the last pristine marine wilderness areas left in the Indian Ocean. After so many years, hidden from the outside world, Vamizi is now very quietly opening its doors to be explored for the first time, through the most careful balance of conservation and discreet tourism.

Vamizi Island has thirteen romantic one or two bedroom timber villas strung loosely along one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. All of the villas are right on the shoreline with wonderful views of the ocean.

Each luxury villa is made from local materials, constructed in a typical Mozambique style, and roofed with palm thatching, called makuti. The villas are airy and spacious – with over 170 square metres of timbered floor to pad about on. Bedrooms have king-size 4 poster beds with billowing muslin mosquito nets and Egyptian cotton sheets. Mozambican marble bathrooms come equipped with baths and indoor and outdoor showers.

A private sitting room or lounge leads from the bedroom, and a sundeck, equipped with sun loungers, surrounds the front of the villa. Each villa is appointed to overlook its own stretch of beach and is designed to receive the incoming sea breeze. Swahili day beds are placed down on the beach so that you can unwind and relax, whilst taking in the stunning views of the Indian Ocean.

For the more active, Vamizi Island Lodge offers excellent snorkelling, scuba diving, big game fishing, salt water fly-fishing, mountain bike trails, bird walks, dhow cruises and private picnics. Tropical vegetation is abundant on the island with over 40 species of tree recorded, including 5 different Mangrove species. 32 species of birds have been recorded on the island. Turtle season is from July to April and Whale season from July to October.

Excellent seafood is served in the restaurant overlooking the coast. Private dining on the beach can also be arranged.
